Source: Berks Weekly, February 24, 2025. BerksIDA acquired the approximately 19.4-acre former chemical and paint manufacturing site at 1853 North Third Street. The report records approval of an environmental remediation plan in January 2025 and a partnership with Shuman Development Group. Proposed reuse divides the site at a rail easement: approximately 14 acres for a retail shopping center and approximately 5.4 acres for redevelopment consistent with neighboring commercial/industrial properties. Status: Proposed applies to the intended redevelopment. Environmental cleanup-plan approval is not land-development or building approval.
