“Local and state officials joined developers Thursday morning to break ground on the $350 million Broadcasting District in Spring Township.”
Berks Weekly · news organization · October 16, 2025 · Facebook

UD’s take

Shovels in the ground, receipts on the record. Berks Weekly’s October 16, 2025 report documents the groundbreaking ceremony for the Broadcasting District in Spring Township and describes a planned $350 million investment. Confirmed applies to that dated ceremony and reported proposal—not completed buildings, tenants opening, or a verified final project cost. “A brand new development is coming to Douglassville, featuring luxury apartments, retail, dining, and a second cafe location for @readingcoffeecompany”
Berks County Views · local publisher · October 22, 2025 · Facebook

UD’s take

The second café is real; “coming” is old news. Reading Coffee Company’s own announcement gives an October 17, 2025 opening at The Pointe at Douglassville, 824 Benjamin Franklin Highway, Suite 202. Confirmed applies to that café location and reported opening—not every retail or dining tenant suggested in the post, and not a fresh check of today’s operations. This is a local publisher’s social-post excerpt, not a reader comment. Reviewed October 22, 2026; Facebook access may be restricted.

Still nosy. Still checking.
“Speedwell has been working on a new Mister Car Wash - this time in Muhlenberg Township, just north of Reading, PA.”
Speedwell Construction · contractor announcement · post date not independently verified · Facebook

UD’s take

Yes, there is a documented Mister Car Wash proposal; no, this post alone does not settle its current status. The Reading Eagle’s October 27, 2025 report identifies Wawa and Mister Car Wash plans at the former Manderbach Ford site on North Fifth Street Highway, with approval reported in October 2024. Speedwell’s excerpt says it is working on a Muhlenberg car wash but does not itself establish the street address, completion or opening date. We are not treating that as independent confirmation of construction at the former Ford site. This is the contractor’s claim, not a reader comment. Reviewed October 22, 2026; the exact post date remains unverified and Facebook access may be restricted.

Q: Why does every empty lot become a bank or a car wash?

— Dana, Westgate

Because both can pay high rent with tiny staffs and survive on low foot traffic. Want something else? That's a zoning conversation, and we'll walk you through it.

Q: Is the old Kmart really becoming pickleball?

— Marcus, Elm St

Pickleball plus self-storage, per the revised site plan filed Sept 4. We have the PDF. We have read it twice. It's real.

Q: Who decides if Harbor Point gets 19 stories?

— Anonymous, very worried

Planning Commission recommends, City Council decides. Both meetings take public comment. Bring a snack.
